HIDTA
funds 29 distinct law enforcement initiatives developed to
reduce drug-related crime and violence. A mixture of federal,
state and local law enforcement from over 40 different agencies
work together in these initiatives, which are collocated in
five sites across the region. Each collocated site is automated
and linked electronically to the HIDTA Information Center.
Using the latest in law enforcement technology, the Information
Center collects, analyzes and disseminates information on
drug and weapons trafficking to support HIDTA initiatives.
The
emphasis of HIDTA is to bring law enforcement agencies together
in an environment created to:
- Facilitate
the identification of major drug and firearms trafficking
organizations. Working together, efforts to identify and
arrest major drug and firearms traffickers and money launderers
will be greatly enhanced.
- Coordinate
enforcement actions to ensure that limited enforcement resources
are judiciously used to have the greatest impact on drug-related
crime and violence.
- Provide
timely, easily accessible information to support the investigation
and prosecution of the region's drug and firearms trafficking
organizations.
