Prevention
Program
The
mission of the Prevention Initiative at HIDTA is to provide administrative
assistance, program coordination and evaluation for three HIDTA
prevention initiatives. Prevention initiatives include law enforcement
partnerships participating at operational and policy-making levels.
A nexus has been formed with law enforcement and other public and
private sector program elements. There is an ongoing effort to expand
alternative funding to enhance the prevention component of this
HIDTA, primarily through grant development.
A
goal of the Washington/Baltimore HIDTA prevention initiatives is
to prevent drug abuse among the region's youth by coordinating community
and local government resources to strengthen youth resiliency, minimize
the impact of high risk conditions and support programs that promote
drug-free values. We assist multidisciplinary teams composed of
local government agencies and community groups influential in children's
social development to provide support, training and resources to
build social networks, mobilize citizens in problem-solving and
youth development, overcome social disorder and decline, and enhance
community cohesion.
